Practicing The Way

The primary tool we use for discipleship in the life of our church is Practicing The Way. Using the different resources from Practicing The Way can greatly help you in constantly growing and maturing in your faith journey.

Below are some helpful ways to grow if you are just beginning in your Christian journey and don’t know where to start.

Reading The Bible By Yourself

The word of God is alive & active! When we read the Bible it changes our lives & reveals more about who God is & what he has done.

Need help knowing how to read the Bible? Follow the R.E.A.P. method:

  • Read the passage. Read it multiple times to try & pick up on key themes.

  • Examine the passage for key themes. Think about the context it was written in (who it was written to, when it was written, who wrote it, etc.). Explore the verses around it. What is God really trying to say through this?

  • How does this apply to my life? What is God trying to do in me personally? What is something that I need to change?

  • Pray through what God has said to you. What is He saying?

We also have past SERMONS and RESOURCES to help you grow in your faith.

Reading The Bible With Others

Reading the Bible by yourself is great, but true discipleship happens when we do the journey of life with others, including sharing God’s word with one another.

Something that might help you read the Bible with others, is the Discovery Bible Method. The DBM method is as simple as ABC:

  • Ask each person how they went with the previous week’s commitment.

    “How did you go with_________?”

    “Who did you tell?”

  • Choose a short passage from the Bible (around 5-10 verses).

Have someone read it aloud, then ask someone else to re-read the passage.

Have the participants retell the story from memory.

Spend some minutes silently reading the passage again.

Silently pray for God to speak directly from the passage.

    Ask open-ended questions, such as:

    “What do you see?”

“What does this say about God?”

“What does this say about us?”

“What is God saying to you?”

Let the participants do most of the talking and don’t be afraid of silences.

If the session veers off course, you can ask,

“Where do you see that in the Bible?”

  • Let them suggest their own commitment to whatever God is saying to them.

    Ask them:

“What are you going to do?”

“Who are you going to tell?”

Prayer

Prayer is powerful & enables us to encounter the presence of God. God wants to meet with us & when we pray, He hears us & speaks to us.
Prayer happens both INDIVIDUALLY (by yourself) & CORPORATELY (with others).

Need help knowing how to pray individually? Follow the A.C.T.S. method:

  • Give God praise & honour for all He is & what He has done.

  • Be authentic in front of God & confess the areas of your life you've been holding back from God. Allow Him to deal with your sin & allow His transforming work to happen in you life.

  • Thank God for everything He has given you in you life. Thank Him for the big gifts & the small gifts. You might want to keep a journal so you can remember what you've prayed and the ways that God has answered prayer.

  • What has God laid on your heart to pray for yourself & others?

Community

We weren't meant to do life on our own! Life was supposed to be done in community with others. At BRBC there are two places that we hope everyone can find a sense of community which are LIFE GROUPS & SUNDAY SERVICES.

Wanting More?

Feeling overwhelmed by the busyness of life? You’re not alone. Many of us yearn for a quiet place to connect with God, just as the Psalmist did. That’s why Queensland Baptists have created 'Retreat In A Box'.

Why don’t you try Queensland Baptist’s ‘Retreat In A Box’ (RIAB).
